Compare and Contrast Attitude Test vs. IQ/Achievement Test
Psychological testing is about using samples of individual’s behavior to determine psychological constructs such as emotional and cognitive functioning of an individual. Psychometrics is the scientific term for psychological testing. Psychological test are divided into various categories depending on the aim and use of the test. These major types are the neuropsychological test, attitude test, IQ/ achievement test and personality test. In comparison of the two major psychological tests I will analyze the achievement/ IQ test and Attitude test.
The QI test measure intelligence while the achievements test test the level and use of ones ability. Various tasks are presented to the person who has to respond by the use of strict guidelines. The results are later compiled. The IQ test involves various tasks which range from language use to hand type task. IQ tests measures ones intelligence which is the ability of a person to understand the surrounding. Such a test in beneficial in examining one’s quality of life. This test does not measure what one has learned but his / her potential thus should be culture independent. This test can be used in the education sector to determine a student’s ability to learn through reading writing a communication (Aiken, & Groth-Marnat, 2006, pp 13).
The attitude test on the other hand tells one about his personal characteristics just like the IQ test but this is based on the attitude one has. An attitude test has a number of situations which a person has to respond to accordingly. Unlike the IQ test, attitude test is based on culture. This makes this test to be used in pre job employment test to examine how an employee can respond to different situations he would face in the organization. The attitude test is therefore more applicable than the IQ test in the work place than the IQ test (Aiken, & Groth-Marnat, 2006, pp 25).
